Acquiring knowledge in a different way….

was the founding principle of the Centre de Formation aux Arts Céramiques PROMETER in 1996.

The Centre has trained numerous potters and pottery workshop leaders, and is still dedicated to accompany individuals, professional or amateur, who wish to discover new techniques and consolidate their knowledge through either the creative courses and/or the courses on leading workshops.

The masterclasses are given by internationally renowned artists who are not only generous teachers, but who ensure that there are splendid opportunities for learning, exchanging ideas and experimentation.

The founder of Prometer, Patricia Cassone, ceramic artist and teacher, gathers around her artists like herself who are passionate about clay and pottery, and who are specialists in their own fields, rich in experience that they are only too happy to share.

New ceramic artists of international fame join us every year:

Rizu Takahashi from Japan
Shozo Michikawa from Japan
Anne Bulliot from France
Hélène Lathoumétie from France
Martin Mac William from Germany
Brigitte Penicaud from France
Gustavo Perez from Mexico
Catherine Vanier from France
Dalloun from France
Dominique Bajard from France
Eva Roucka from the Czech Republic
Wally Asselberghs from Belgium
Patricia Cassone from France

Prometer has been in existence for 16 years; it was founded in Provence but is now based in the Limousin.

For five years the masterclasses have taken place in Saint-Sulpice-les-Feuilles (87160)

The classes will take place:

  • during the summer, at the Domaine de la Perelle,
  • in the spring and autumn, at La Valette, in Patricia Cassone’s studio.

La Valette is an authentic Center of ceramic expression.  Patricia Cassone has made it her center of creation and before her two other generations of potters were installed here.

It is a beautiful spot with two hundred year old trees, a small bamboo forest and flocks of birds whose songs gaily regulate the rhythms of the day.

La Valette and the Domaine de la Perelle, both in the district of Saint-Sulpice-lesFeuilles, are sites of regenerative energy surrounded by fields and forests of oaks and chestnuts.  These centres are just 40 minutes from Limoges with its famous Ceramics Museum and all the other sites linked to the history of porcelain, 40 minutes from Châteauroux with its Biennale of Contemporary Ceramics and 2 hours from La Borne, a village in the Berry region, which is well-known for its tradition of pottery and is now populated by numerous ceramic artists.

In June 2012, a noborigama japonese kiln will be replaced by an anagama kiln built during a masterclass which will be directed by the famous Japanese ceramic artist : Shozo Michikawa.

There are numerous possibilities for board and lodging:  gîtes, very reasonably priced hotels, bed and breakfast, camping grounds, chalets at camping grounds, you will find a list under Board and Lodging on this site.

Look at the site Forum for sharing car journeys down to Saint-Sulpice-les-Feuilles and also for sharing accommodation.
